a long summer

My husband's health is a major concern. Medical specialists are a 90 minute drive for us. With all the traveling and waiting, I keep my hands busy with a funky fabric art project.

Sketchbook Project

My sketchbook arrived from the Brooklyn Art House. Now I need to fill it up and get it back to New York by January 15, 2011 as part of the Sketchbook Project. My theme is "Nighttime Stories".
I am a little disappointed that the paper in the sketchbook is so thin. I was planning to continue with collage work. This paper is a challenge.

magical Texas highways

Those Texas highways lead to creative thinking for me. I have planned out so many projects and paintings while riding across West Texas. Then again washing dishes often has the same effect on me ... just doesn't seem as magical.

Jim Klapchuk Drawing

Here is a detail from a drawing by Jim Klapchuk. The girl in this drawing is me in 1976 in Alaska. I thought this drawing was long lost.

Past Studio

A few years ago my studio was in my building on Main Street. When I sold the building many things went into storage. I have designated July as the month to sort through the stored items. The plan is to do a little each day. Here I am on day 4 and I have already found work that I had forgotten. This is actually fun.

Small Format

I am working in a small format, either 8" X 10" or 5" X 7".
Yesterday I put the finishing touches on six new pieces.
I am so pleased that the work is coming together.

International Union Of Mail Artists

The studio is organized with a work table for collage and another for painting. I haven't returned to painting yet. My interest in mail art has kept me busy with collage. Receiving little works of art in the mail is so fun!

If I were....

If I were a month I’d be. . . March.
If I were a day I’d be. . . Thursday.
If I were a time of day I’d be. . . midnight.

If I were an animal I’d be. . . a gorilla.
If I were a bird I'd be. . . an owl.
If I were a pair of shoes I’d be. . . cowboy boots.

If I were a stone I’d be. . . a saphire.
If I were a tree I’d be. . . a mulberry so my leaves could feed silkworms.
If I were a flower I’d be. . . Queen Anne's lace.

If I were weather I’d be. . . a thunderstorm.
If I were an element I'd be. . . water.
If I were a car I'd be. . . a Jaguar.

If I were a color I'd be. . . blue gray.
If I were an emotion I’d be. . . joy.
If I were a gift I'd be. . . a pleasant surprise.

If I were a fruit I’d be. . . watermelon.
If I were an instrument I’d be. . . a mandolin.
If I were fabric I'd be. . . denim.

If I were a body part I’d be. . . hands.
If I were a facial expression I'd be. . . tears with laughter.
If I were a song I’d be. . . amplified.

If I were a sound I’d be. . . boot heels on a hardwood floor.
If I were a taste I’d be. . . fine chocolate.
If I were a scent I’d be. . . a flower shop.
